Netflix Instant Documentaries to Expand Your Knowledge

January 31, 2012 in Miscellaneous

“The human mind is not capable of grasping the Universe. We are like a little child entering a huge library. The walls are covered to the ceilings with books in many different tongues. The child knows that someone must have written these books. It does not know who or how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. But the child notes a definite plan in the arrangement of the books—-a mysterious order which it does not comprehend, but only dimly suspects.”
- Albert Einstein

As a scientist, I like to approach everything objectively and collect all my facts before coming to any conclusions. As a scientist and individual, I also have an insatiable curiosity to learn everything I can. As a photographer, I find satisfaction in exploring what inspires and drives other cultures creatively, and the similarities in humanity between ancient peoples and the ones of today. Since I have been getting into some interesting conversations with people who seem to have never heard of many alternative theories and views that I am familiar with, I thought that I would share with you guys a few documentaries on Netflix streaming that I feel are worth watching (and presented in some logical order to watch in!).

Self portrait by my favorite frozen lake

December 19, 2011 in Medicine Bow National Forest, Miscellaneous, Winter, Wyoming

My Own Shadow on North Crow Reservoir, Wyoming

I decided I needed a break from writing and took off on what I thought was going to be a nice snow shoe with my dog. I haven’t been up to the Laramie Mountains in a few weeks, and when I got there I realized that the warm weather we’ve been having (warm is 30′s F by Wyoming standards) had really taken its toll on the snow pack. I decided to drive further in to one of my favorite fishing spots that I usually can’t get to in the winter. Miraculously, the snow had actually melted off most of the dirt roads which were clear of snow sans the occasion patch. I drove the 6 miles or so in on the dirt road and made it to the isolated lake that I’ve had so many good times at. I took a deep breath and felt like I was finally returning to a part of my home. Total complete silence except for the noisy crunch of my own shoes. Although there would be no fishing since most of the lake was frozen with ski tracks across it, I still enjoyed the fact that warm weather allowed my station wagon to be able to see this spot in the winter!
